CHINA’S IMPORTANT ENERGY TRANSMISSION CHANNEL DISCOVERED VIA LIVE BROADCAST

KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 (Bernama) -- ‘Low-carbon development is related to the future of mankind’ has become a global consensus.

To achieve the goal of carbon emission peak and carbon neutrality, the most important task is to realise the low-carbon transformation of the energy system.

Following this, the State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Company and Xinhua News Agency have jointly launched a news operation, driving live broadcast car and new energy vehicles along the Huainan-Nanjing-Shanghai UHV project line.

The line is an  important energy transmission channel in China.

According to a statement, they visited the new power system with new energy as the main body, to tell the story of the practice of green and low-carbon development in the Yangtze River Delta and the harmonious co-existence of man and nature.

All along the way, the news action showed the changes in energy production and use.

Regional pilot projects are an important action for achieving China's carbon peak and carbon neutrality.

While continuing to serve as the engine of China's economic growth, the regional integration strategy will also lead the country's zero-carbon transition and become a model for national green development.

NEW RESEARCH SHOWS 75% OF APAC ORGANISATIONS BELIEVE ZERO TRUST FRAMEWORKS ARE VERY IMPORTANT FOLLOWING COVID-19

Study uncovers C-level attitudes on secure access as enterprises embrace the Everywhere Workplace

SYDNEY, May 18 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Ivanti Inc., the automation platform that makes every IT connection smarter and more secure, today unveiled the findings of a Frost & Sullivan study it commissioned, entitled “Embracing Secure Access in a World of Rapidly Expanding Virtual Borders” – which investigates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cybersecurity and compliance attitudes and behaviors in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.

Examining the impact of COVID-19 on business demand and cybersecurity strategies

The pandemic has negatively impacted business for enterprises in the Asia Pacific region. Most respondents experienced a moderate 1-9 percent reduction in business demand, with Australia having the highest percentage of respondents reported (80 percent), compared to those in New Zealand (73 percent) and Singapore (59 percent).

Overall, 38 percent of respondents said that their main strategy was to focus on IT operations to maintain business operations for their remote workforce during COVID-19. However, more than 40 percent of the respondents in Australia and New Zealand stated that they focused more on cybersecurity to better protect their organisation from attacks.

When it comes to cloud adoption during COVID-19, most respondents indicated their organisation adopted cloud more during the pandemic, especially those in Australia and New Zealand, with 64 percent and 57 percent of respondents agreeing that their organisation adopted cloud more during the pandemic respectively.

Devising the right security formula for today’s hybrid, adaptive modern enterprise

Consolidation and integration of solutions was ‘very important’ to 71 percent of respondents across Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand.

At the same time, the importance of zero trust frameworks increased across the board with 75 percent of all enterprises surveyed during the pandemic stating that this was very important, compared to the 64 percent that stated the same before the pandemic.

With cybercriminals now targeting the underlying technologies that support a growing remote workforce, manual, disparate security tools are not going to be sustainable for IT teams.

Enterprises are therefore recommended to adopt a strategic approach that focuses on:
  • Complete visibility and centralised control by deploying solutions that provide a single view of threats, technology management, vulnerabilities and perceived risks across an organisation’s entire environment. When enterprises enter the market for new security vendors, the key features they need to look for include threat detection and response, penetration testing, vulnerability testing and scanning and security technology management.
  • Support for multi-cloud and diverse environments - In order to address the mounting challenge of protecting globally dispersed data and compute environments, it is critical that the modern enterprise’s security stance encompasses assets in all environments, whether on-premises, public clouds, private clouds, or a mixed setup.
Kenny Yeo, Associate Director and Head of Asia Pacific Cyber Security Practice at Frost & Sullivan, said, “To secure digital assets in the new Everywhere Workplace, security leaders need complete visibility into all endpoints that connect to their networks. They also need to ensure that only trusted users, devices, and applications can access corporate resources. Deploying an integrated security platform that features best-in-class contextual automation and zero trust capabilities is the best way to reduce the risk of breaches and future-proof businesses.”

Michael Waring, VP Asia Pacific & Japan, Ivanti Security Solutions Group (SSG), said, “In changing the way we work, COVID-19 has also created new security challenges for organizations. As employees, we are increasingly mobile and remote, and we use an ever-changing combination of networks and devices – some of which could be vulnerable or even compromised – to access sensitive corporate IT applications. Businesses today need to adopt a zero trust approach, which enables highly secure yet more fluid ‘anytime, anywhere’ access to applications and information in the data center or in the cloud.”

The study surveyed C-Suite respondents at large enterprises with over 500 employees, across the banking and financial services industry (BFSI), as well as retail, manufacturing and healthcare verticals.

NEP AND ASIAN TOUR MEDIA GO LIVE WITH FIRST EVER GOLF REMOTE PRODUCTION IN ASIA

SINGAPORE, May 17 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With a successful delivery of HSBC Women’s World Championship golf in Singapore and the Honda LPGA Thailand production as a new proof of concept, NEP Singapore and Asian Tour Media have registered Asia’s first live-to-air remote production.

NEP Singapore is excited about the development and deployment of the best technologies and tools for its clients, and is proud to unveil its new transformational commitment to bring Remote Production to South East Asia.

Saeed Izadi, President of NEP Singapore and India, said: "Innovation is the engine of our progress and I support it with a passion. Our brand focuses on being creative and ambitious — all of the design and implementation were done entirely by our in-house engineers and with the support of our global expertise in NEP. I am very proud of our team, which has enabled us to realize our vision of being pioneers in this innovation."

Saeed commented that the quality of this production was “exceptionally unmatchable”.

"It has been my dream to set up a remote production hub in South East Asia, but it would not have been possible without the trust that our client, Asian Tour Media, has placed in us. We’re grateful for that,” he added.

Alastair Berry, Managing Director of Asian Tour Media, said: “We needed to have the same production solution for both Singapore and Thailand events, and so the move to remote production was an easy decision to make. We have been working very closely with NEP throughout the last 12 months on this project, so we knew the technology would work. What we didn’t realise was just how good the system was, the technology is amazing."

Remote Production is a hybrid method of broadcasting, based on Internet Protocol (IP) technology. Locating equipment follows a distributed model in which IP provides the connectivity as opposed to physical cables.

Saeed explains: “Traditionally we used to build TV control rooms with our fly-pack where the event was happening, being a golf course, a cricket stadium, racetrack or any sporting venue. It has always been logistics heavy. With this mould-breaking approach, we are able to reduce the volume of the broadcasting equipment at the venue tremendously, keeping the core of the system at base.”

Environmental responsibility is integral to how NEP operates, and the team at NEP believes addressing global warming requires a collective effort by all industries. Remote Production is more environmentally friendly; furthermore, it addresses the pressing challenge casued by the COVID pandemic to meet safety requirements and provide social distancing, as it allows for crew to collaborate remotely and while based on different locations around the globe.

“Thinking of just how many fewer flights are necessary for the entire team, I can confidently claim [that] it will be an effective step towards reducing carbon footprint for us and for our clients and partners," Saeed states. "Traditionally, big teams were required to be present where the event was taking place. Remote production is a game changer in that regards. And the beauty of it is that the unparalleled premium quality of the feed we are committed to provide to our client is not sacrificed.”

Completion of this event marks an important step forward in NEP’s strategic goal to become the worldwide leader in Centralised (Remote) Production and to deliver an expanding portfolio of cloud-based and virtualized production solutions and products. The company has an expanding network of connected centralised production facilities and datacenters around the world, and it will continue to expand this network over the coming year.

ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY IS ONE OF THE MOST INTERNATIONALLY AND REGIONALLY INTEGRATED INDUSTRIES IN ASEAN, SPREADING ALL MEMBER STATES, SAYS THE ASEAN-JAPAN CENTRE

Report Global Value Chains in ASEAN: Electronics is available for download on AJC website (Graphic: Business Wire)

Report “Global Value Chains in ASEAN: Electronics” is available for download on AJC website (Graphic: Business Wire)

TOKYO, April 20 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- The electrical and electronics (E&E) industry is characterized by internationally fragmented but well-integrated production networks with geographically extensive and highly modular value chains, which provide opportunities for ASEAN countries to easily participate in the E&E value chain, according to the study by the ASEAN-Japan Centre, entitled Global Value Chains in ASEAN: Electronics, issued in March 2021. This is the 14th report of the 16-paper series of ASEAN global value chain (GVCs) by AJC.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20210419006002/en/

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a significant hub of E&E production, contributing approximately $268 billion to the regional gross domestic product (GDP), employing more than 2.4 million workers and accounting for the largest share of ASEAN’s total exports (27 per cent).

Overall, the E&E industry in ASEAN relies on more foreign inputs and technology than other industries, with 53 per cent of E&E exports coming from foreign value added (FVA), or the foreign inputs integrated into ASEAN’s E&E exports. Nonetheless, value added in exports differs across the region, depending on each country’s position in the E&E value chain.

Intraregional trade among ASEAN countries is the largest contributor to ASEAN E&E exports in terms of FVA, accounting for a quarter of total FVA ($43.4 billion) in 2017, while the combined FVA created by China and Japan constitutes more than a third of total FVA.

During 1990–2017, ASEAN’s GVC participation in E&E equipment declined slightly, from 74 per cent to 70 per cent, while its regional value chain (RVC) participation doubled, from 9 per cent to 18 per cent. The contradictory trends are explained by higher regional production capacity and well-established regional production networks.

With different areas of specialization, ASEAN has become an attractive and important hub for the E&E industry. The region hosts an extensive range of E&E production along the value chain, ranging from labour-intensive and simple activities such as assembly and testing to capital-intensive tasks such as component design and research and development.

DRUVA SECURES $147 MILLION INVESTMENT TO EXTEND MARKET LEADERSHIP

New Funding to Fuel Continued Innovation, Scale, and Expand Routes to Market for Druva Cloud Platform

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 20 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Druva Inc., the leader in Cloud Data Protection and Management, today announced a $147 million investment as the company rapidly scales in response to accelerated demand for its platform. The fundraise was led by Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), a global investment group, with a significant investment by Neuberger Berman, each of which manage more than $300 billion in net assets. The round, which raises the company’s valuation above $2 billion, also included participation from existing investors Viking Global Investors and Atreides Management. As organizations quickly move workloads to cloud environments, adopt SaaS solutions, and combat rising cyber threats, this new investment will fuel continued expansion of Druva Cloud Platform to meet today’s unprecedented needs, and extend the company’s industry leadership as it defines tomorrow’s data protection.

Over the last 12 months, enterprises have moved swiftly to adopt cloud solutions to strengthen business resilience, maintain critical business operations, and support hybrid work models. Based on this demand, Gartner, Inc. forecasts cloud adoption will reach a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20.7 percent.* As data grows exponentially in parallel to this new operating model, traditional data protection based on hardware and software is no longer scalable or cost-effective. Instead, businesses need a new approach which can be deployed from anywhere, protect data across the enterprise, and deliver it securely as a service. Only solutions built natively in the cloud will be able to successfully deliver all this functionality and, 40 percent of organizations will supplement or completely replace traditional backup applications with cloud-based solutions by 2022, according to Gartner, Inc.**

“Rising volumes of stored data, rapid adoption of cloud and deployment of SaaS applications, regulatory frameworks and cybersecurity concerns have accelerated the demand for data protection and management solutions for businesses,” said Alexandre Synnett, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, CDPQ. “The working-from-home dynamic experienced globally has further accentuated the need for cloud-based data protection solutions and we believe Druva is in an excellent position to seize opportunities and enhance its clients’ agility and data compliance.”

With the ability to deliver faster time to value and help businesses manage, protect, and govern critical data during their digital transformation efforts, Druva Cloud Platform’s customer base has expanded substantially during 2020, while the adoption of multiple Druva Cloud Platform products has increased by 50 percent in the same time period. In the last year, the company’s data under management has grown by more than 40 percent as Druva supports industry leaders, disruptors, and pioneers including GameStop, Marriott, NASA, National Cancer Institute, Pfizer, and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals.

“We have been extremely impressed by Druva’s talented management team, leading technology, and ongoing innovation in serving the enterprise market,” said Charles Kantor, Managing Director, Neuberger Berman. “We believe we are in the early innings of enterprises shifting workloads to the cloud, and Druva’s proprietary solutions position the company for long-term success. We look forward to providing our experienced market perspectives to management as Druva marks this important inflection point in its growth trajectory.”

“The unprecedented events of 2020 have ushered in a generational cloud transformation for businesses, and data‘s increasing value is at the very heart of it,” said Jaspreet Singh, founder and CEO, Druva. “Druva pioneered the cloud data protection category almost a decade ago and has led the way in defining the architecture, business model, and user experience our customers now expect. This investment and our continued, rapid growth is further validation of our vision for a simple, open, and unified data protection and management platform.”

“The last 12 months have underscored how organizational agility is at a premium, and IT leaders are increasingly turning to cloud technologies to increase business resilience and velocity,” said Phil Goodwin, Research Director, IDC. “Companies able to simplify complex data protection processes, particularly by leveraging the cloud, can gain strategic advantage through better data availability and Druva Cloud Platform is architected to make it a compelling choice for organizations navigating cloud migrations.”

JAPAN NATIONAL TOURISM ORGANIZATION LAUNCHES COUNTRY'S MANY-SPLENDOURED INSIDER GUIDE

KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 (Bernama) -- The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) recently launched Insider Guide to Japan, celebrating the country’s many traditions, innovations, natural wonders and adventures.

2021 is a landmark year for Japan, as Tokyo gears up to host the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the country is set to be one of the top travel destinations.

According to a statement, JNTO will launch a series of newsletters from this month to serve as an insider’s guide to Japan’s many traditions and innovations.

Given the volume of attractions across the country, JNTO categorises Japan’s travel offerings into seven passions: Cuisine, Outdoors, Relaxation, Nature, Tradition, Art, and Cities.

In addition, JNTO has launched ‘Experiences in Japan’, a website that showcases activities based on these Seven Passions.

While preparing for the resumption of inbound travel, JNTO is also taking a number of COVID-19 measures to ensure peace of mind for visitors, including multilingual infographics on precautions as well as emergency information.

JNTO president, Seino Satoshi said: “Tokyo 2020 will begin from July 23 this year. Taking place 10 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake, the torch relay will demonstrate the nation’s recovery to the world.”

“The COVID-19 pandemic has made travel to Japan impossible, and unfortunately it has been decided to hold the games without overseas spectators. However, I firmly believe that humankind will overcome this crisis and tourism will resume.”
