Tesco walks the walk in charity event for under-served schools, raising RM470,000 fund

KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 (Bernama) -- About 2,000 participants walked a scenic route last week in Johor Bahru, enjoying activities and performances during the Tesco Walk for Kids 2019.
This year, the event raised more than RM470,000 in funds from participation fees, cash donations and contribution in-kind from over 27 Tesco business partners and suppliers, according to a statement.

Organised by Tesco Malaysia, the charity walkathon is a Tesco annual fundraising event to support nine underserved schools in Johor, as part of the Tesco-PINTAR Foundation School adoption programme.
It was held at Tesco Mutiara Rini with the participation of families, children, students, teachers and local community, walking 3km and running 5km scenic routes, respectively, within the hypermarket compound and the park vicinity.
“Following the success of our previous Walk for Kids events in KL and Ipoh, we are delighted to bring the event to Johor, in support of our nine adopted schools to raise funds for their school infrastructure, health and wellness, and student welfare programmes,” said Tesco Malaysia chief executive officer, Paul Ritchie, who flagged off the event.
The first 1,000 finishers of the 5km run category received limited edition medals, with the top three receiving a cash prize of RM1,000, RM500, and RM250, respectively. Participants also received goodie bags upon completing the walk.
With the school adoption programme well into its third year, Tesco has contributed over RM3.7 million for its 63 adopted schools nationwide.
