KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 (Bernama) -- The 3rd AIAC-ICC Pre-Moot for the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Pre-Moot) was successfully hosted by the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) recently.
The Pre-Moot was jointly organised by AIAC and the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
The purpose of the Pre-Moot - aligned with the AIAC’s purpose - was to foster Alternative Dispute Resolution capacity building in the region.
The AIAC has hosted 90 teams, with close to 380 participants from 21 countries and 180 hearings with over 200 arbitrators, making it the largest Vis Pre-Moot internationally leading up to the competitions in Hong Kong and Vienna.
The champion was National Law Institute University in Bhopal, India; runner-up was National Academy of Legal Studies and Research, University of Law, India; and, National Law School of India University Team 1 in third place.
“What makes this Pre-Moot unique is that we welcome non-participating teams at Vienna and Hong Kong to come and experience the Vis Moot through us,” said AIAC acting director, Vinayak Pradhan.
“Through this initiative, we are able to bring together an outstanding group of law students from Asia who struggle to obtain the resources to get to Vienna or Hong Kong.
“It is for these reasons that this Pre-Moot is vital to our mission to create a sustainable framework and resource base for international arbitration, not only in Malaysia but all over the Asia Pacific region,” he noted.
