REGIONAL EXPERT REVEALS LOCATION-BASED ANALYTICS A GAME CHANGER FOR MALAYSIA'S BIG DATA SPACE

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 4 (BERNAMA) -- The country’s vision to make Malaysia a regional Big Data Analytics hub by 2020 has created a growing appetite for location-based analytics, a renowned industry leader said. “Big data streams in at high volume and velocity, and the ability to effectively harness and derive actionable value from big data is very important to many organizations,” Esri South Asia Managing Director Leslie Wong said. “As organisations run more and more analytics on their data, there’s a fast growing interest to visualize results spatially on a map to find location-based relationships. “Analysts and decision-makers are looking for more insights that can only be discovered through location-framed perspectives.” Location-based analytics is an approach being used by an increasing number of Malaysia’s government organisations and commercial enterprises to integrate and analyse data from multiple business systems. The technology opens up a dynamic map-based view of information, allowing users to unearth relationships, patterns, and trends that would not have been obvious have in tabular view or purely numerical metrics. “Regionally, the uptake of location-based analytics has largely been driven cities with smart city goals,” Mr Wong said. “Among these cities are Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Iskandar, Singapore, Jakarta and many others, which have used the approach to deliver impactful community development programs, safer neighbourhoods and efficient government services among others.
