China Benxi´s ´song of ice and fire´ surefire magnet for moolah

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- The unique geological and ecological resources in Benxi, located at Liaoning province, China has triggered a blooming multi-point ice and snow economy, fuelling the development of the ice-snow tourism industry.
According to a statement from the Benxi Municipal Government, the freezing world of ice and snow has brought a new economic vitality to Benxi, transforming the frozen and snow-capped land into the proverbial ‘mountain of gold and silver’.
Based on the 2018 ice-snow tourism data, Benxi received about 7.7 million tourists, with total tourism revenue reached 6.24 billion yuan (10 Chinese Renminbi = RM 6.05).
Tourists nationwide had an ice and snow feast in the city during the Chinese Lunar New Year, creating an innovative ice economy to solve the common tourism problem of ‘half year hot, half year idle’ in northern cities.
The Benxi Ice and Snow Carnival was also held in Huaxi Mu International Hot Spring Resort on Feb 13.
“Every winter, a large number of tourists would come here for ski, soak in hot springs and enjoy the snow. All rooms would be booked early, especially during the Spring Festival,” said Benxi Huaxi Mu International Hot Spring Resort general manager of operations, Song Zhenglin.
Benxi has also created an ‘ice-snow and hot spring’ model which attracted a large number of tourists nationwide and significantly increased tourism revenue.
Taking the Huaxi Mu International Hot Spring Resort as an example, more than two billion yuan was invested in building the resort to promote rural revitalisation and steer towards increasing the income and prosperity of villagers.
