Hainan aims to better connect with the world


 
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 (Bernama) – Since the Hainan Pilot Free Trade Zone and free trade port were established in April 2018, more and more people have been sitting up and taking notice of this island province of China.

Therefore, in order to be more innovative in international communication, a seminar was organised in late August themed "Innovating communication modes, telling Hainan stories, enhancing international communication -- building Hainan Pilot Free Trade Zone (Port)".

A statement said international communication experts were invited to the event held by the Publicity Department of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee in Haikou City.

Among the speakers was Australian Associated Press chief executive officer, Bruce Davidson, who said that Hainan was the "Hawaii of China" and suggested it provide the media with attractive stories that feature rich multimedia elements like pictures and videos, and sharing them through platforms like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Professor Zhong Xin of Renmin University of China’s School of Journalism and Communication said Hainan’s cultivation and development of Nanfan breeding, deepsea technology and aerospace technology were its “new soft power resources” which could benefit its international image and attractiveness.

Handelsblatt (China) chief representative, Frank Sieren, said Hainan’s strengths were its natural environment and momentum of rapid development.

Xinhua News Agency, International Business Development Department, News and Information Center director, Sun Jing, emphasised that to do international communication well, a distinctive image must be built, a riveting story told and a concept invented.

The seminar was attended by officials of the Publicity Department of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee, Hainan Provincial Tourism Development Committee, teachers and students from some universities in Hainan and media leaders.
