KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 (Bernama) – The Association of Chartered
Certified Accountants (ACCA) organised a one-day seminar on the impending Sales
and Services Tax (SST) 2.0 at Sheraton Petaling Jaya recently
attended by over 300 people.
ACCA Malaysia
country head, Edward Ling, said: “This SST Seminar is a great example of
how ACCA is meeting the needs of professional accountants for relevant,
up-to-date input while supporting the Malaysian government’s initiatives.”
On hand to
explain the new tax system which will come into effect on Sept 1 were Customs
Department director-general, Datuk Seri Subromaniam Tholasy and
TraTax partner, Thenesh Kannaa.
In his talk,
Subromaniam clarified the difference between SST 1.0 and SST 2.0,
explained the implementation of SST 2.0, key compliance requirements,
exemptions, appeal processes and refunds.
Thenesh,
meanwhile, shed light on the technical details of the new SST legislation,
highlighted key transitional matters and explained the industry-by-industry
impact of the transition from GST to SST.
