Datong, China's ancient city sees rise in tourism


KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 (Bernama) -- Datong, China - the famous historical and cultural city - has seen a wavelike rise in tourism since the first release of the Tourism Development Index in September 2017.

It indicates the favorable overall strength of the tourism industry of Datong with the number of tourists visited Datong during major holidays soaring rapidly in the first quarter 2018.

China Economic Information Service (CEIS) of Xinhua News Agency recently released the index for Datong.

The open city environment results in a significant increase of international tourists to Datong who were highly satisfied with the hotel service and scenic area service whereby 'Datong Garden Hotel' has become a word-of-mouth excellent hotel among the global tourists.

The first city-level ancient city tourism big data index in the world was produced by combining the real-time information perception technology of the data era with the natural landscape and history-related resources, a statement said.

Datong has constantly enhance pollution control and develop clean coal technology and new energy technology with the air quality maintained at top ranking in Shanxi Province for five years in a row, which has shown its resolution to perfect its ecological construction to the world.

Datong is also one of the first batch of 24 famous historic and cultural cities issued by China with world-famous cultural tourism resources that once rivaled the ancient city of Rome, Italy. The world historic and cultural heritages are the 'business cards' of Datong to the world.

Among global tourists attractions are the earthy great wall and fortresses of the Ming Dynasty, the natural resources of volcanic clusters and soil forests and cultural events like the Spring Festival ancient city lantern show, riding show and marathon.
