MOSTI Will Improve Its Funding Mechanism

MELAKA, March 10 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) will make improvement on its funding mechanism to ensure optimum results from its projects.

Its Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, said the improvement plan was expected to be announced at the end of this month with the aim to ensure more projects can be commercialised by 2020.

"There may be rebranding of grants under the MOSTI to enhance effectiveness of the distribution in the development of research, innovation and commercialisation.

"This improvement plan is made after taking into consideration of various aspects on the effectiveness of the funding that we provide to the applicants or researchers," he said this to reporters after the handing over of MOSTI Social Innovation Project here today.

During the ceremony, he presented organic fertiliser, which is a research and development product by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Universiti Sains Malaysia, for the organic tree planting project at Dusun Dato Murad Prison here.

Also present were Deputy Commissioner-General of Prisons (Deputy Managing Director of Prisoners, Vocational and Industrial) Datuk Mohd Sakeri Dollah and Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Norhalim Yunus.
