Syngenta’s TYMIRIUM® technology secures regulatory approval in Argentina

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- Syngenta, one of the world’s leading agriculture companies, announced its TYMIRIUM® technology has received regulatory approval in Argentina.

The technology will bring farmers closer to accessing the novel nematicide and fungicide for both seed and soil uses, which is highly effective even at low use rates.

According to a statement, TYMIRIUM® technology provides long-lasting protection against invisible yet highly destructive nematodes and soil-borne diseases – particularly the Fusarium species.

Key benefits include its ability to safeguard plant roots from attack, translocate to above-ground parts of the plant and protect against early season diseases. Simple to apply, it is also highly compatible with a wide range of other crop inputs.

“The development of TYMIRIUM® technology required an investment of over 10 years to bring it from discovery to market – a clear example of Syngenta’s commitment to addressing farming needs,” said the president of Global Crop Protection Jeff Rowe.

Farmers using TYMIRIUM® technology further benefit from its ability to preserve soil biodiversity and soil health. A protected, stronger root system supports soil structure and soil organic matter enhances nutrient use efficiency, and improves crop resilience to both biotic and abiotic stress.

Highly selective, TYMIRIUM® technology has minimal impact on beneficial insects, pollinators, and soil biodiversity.

Products containing TYMIRIUM® technology will be launched in over 100 crops and in more than 60 countries worldwide, under various trademarks in the coming years.

THE NATURE CONSERVANCY AND GLOBAL PARTNERS HOLD SESSION ON IMPROVING PROTECTED MARINE AREAS AT UN OCEANS CONFERENCE WITH SUPPORT FROM MARY KAY INC.

With less than 3% of the ocean effectively protected, stakeholders call for strengthening global efforts to protect at least 30% of our ocean with a focus on improving the management of existing areas, rather than promoting the establishment of new protection.

DALLAS, Aug 10 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- The United Nations Ocean Conference 2022 took place from June 27 to July 1, in Lisbon, Portugal, and brought together more than 5,000 participants, including world leaders, entrepreneurs, youth, influencers, and scientists. The conference aimed to facilitate these stakeholders in finding science-driven innovations and solutions to respond to a multidimensional ocean crisis driven by climate change, overfishing, habitat loss, and pollution.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20220809005180/en/

The Nature Conservancy (TNC), with support from Mary Kay Inc., held an event in collaboration with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Government of Ecuador, the Jocotoco Foundation, the Charles Darwin Foundation for the Galapagos Islands, Re:wild, and the Marine Conservation Institute.

TNC and UNEP moderated the event, highlighting the critical importance of ensuring quality Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) by enhancing governance, effective management, and climate resilience and the significant roles that communities, NGOs, governments, philanthropy, the private sector, and cross-sector collaborations play in effective MPAs.

The event stood out at the conference, as it emphasized the need to improve the management of existing areas, instead of promoting the establishment of new protection. As currently fewer than 3% of MPAs are effectively managed, the efficacy of these protective measures is essential to capitalize on their potential for both conservation and livelihoods.

Dr. Lizzie Mcleod of TNC noted, “Effective management is foundational to achieving 30x30 commitments—a campaign to protect 30 percent of the world's ocean by 2030. With support from Mary Kay, TNC, UNEP, and other partners, we are developing tools for marine managers to improve marine management, support sustainable financing, and guide marine habitat restoration. By leveraging innovation, new technologies, and global best practices, marine managers will be better able to tackle major threats facing our oceans.”

“MPAs are key to ocean health and sustainable development. But they are not always effective without a range of support. Decision support tools that enable improved MPA design and management, knowledge sharing, and collaboration are needed to give marine stakeholders the support they need to better protect the oceans,” said Ole Vestergaard, Programme Officer in the Marine, Coastal & Freshwater Ecosystems Branch of Division for Environmental Policy Implementation at UNEP.

“Mary Kay’s founder, Mary Kay Ash, believed that there are three types of people in this world: those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wonder what happened,” said Deborah Gibbins, Chief Operating Officer at Mary Kay. “We’re honored to join forces with the first type of people to develop the tools and resources needed to protect our oceans for generations to come.”

If we are to protect and restore ocean and coastal ecosystem services and revitalize ocean systems and secure our current livelihoods and humanity’s future, we must improve the effectiveness of marine protected areas in achieving their conservation and sustainability goals in parallel to accelerating MPA coverage.

LILA MOVETECH SECURES RM2.5 MILLION FINANCING UNDER MDV-TACT FOR ITS USA EXPANSION

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 (Bernama) --  Sportboleh Sdn. Bhd. (Sportboleh), owner of LILA® Movementechnology (LILA Movetech) brand of high-performance products, today announced its continued expansion into the global marketplace and the initiation of its USA omni-strategy growth plans for the lucrative USA and North American sport and fitness markets.

Sportboleh’s growth plans will be supported by a RM2.5 million financing facility from Malaysia Debt Ventures Berhad’s Technology Acceleration and Commercialisation Scheme (MDV-TACT). MDV is an agency under the purview of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and a subsidiary of the Minister of Finance (Incorporated) that provides financing for high-growth technology companies.

The announcement was made during a signing ceremony between Sportboleh and MDV, held at Sportboleh’s office in Wisma OCM yesterday.

The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, YB Dato’ Sri Dr. Adham bin Baba commented that as an agency under MOSTI, MDV, through its innovative and specialised financing facilities, is focused on assisting high-calibre technology companies and startups like Sportboleh to develop their technologies and products.

“LILA Movetech has the potential of being Malaysia’s first truly global sports brand. I am pleased that MDV is able to offer its expertise and assistance to Sportboleh to ensure that they are able to realise their aspirations at the global level and putting Malaysia’s own home-grown company at par with other successful sports technology companies around the world,” said YB Dato ’Sri Dr. Adham bin Baba.

LILA Movetech’s CEO and Founder, Joseph Dolcetti, a 35-year veteran of high performance sport training, shared that, “As a Canadian who spent almost a decade as a high performance consultant for National Sports Council of Malaysia, I knew that when I started the company here, one day, we would reach the juncture where we would be faced with the struggle of needing to get into the big markets of North America and Europe. Coming from Malaysia, that wouldn’t be easy. While I have watched Malaysia grow in leaps and bounds in both its sport culture and sport economy, Malaysia is still considered a small market and has slower adoption rate for new technologies compared to more mature sport cultures.”

He added, “Being home-strong is really important for us. We have already established strong local roots with key local partnerships including the National Sports Institute, Selangor FC, Ironman Malaysia and RC Triathlon Coaching. Sportboleh also has a local customer base that includes many of our international heroes as customers, including BAM, PARAlympics, Malaysia Diving, Malaysia Hockey and more. However, the next growth area lies in the big global ocean, and it is time to stamp our mark at a truly global level. In this regard, we are fortunate that Malaysia has always been very supportive of its start-ups and entrepreneurs, and has in place various enabling policies and programmes to assist them to scale up, such as the MDV-TACT offered by MDV.”

Dolcetti explained, that partnerships in the USA have already been established at the highest level of sport. These include STAR ATHLETICS out of Florida, who host a cohort of NIKE’s premiere speed demons including Sha'Carri Richardson (the fastest anchor leg in the history (9.69) of the World Athletics), Kenny Bednarek (World Champion of the World Athletics) and Twanisha Terry (World Gold Medalist of the World Athletics), as well as a research partnership already in place with the UFC Performance Institute, which is the largest combat sports brand and organisation in the world. With these, acceptance of LILA Movetech’s product solutions is growing at all levels.

The first wave of Sportboleh’s expansion strategy will look to secure logistics and legal compliance, as required, followed by a focused Direct to Customer (DTC) strategy that will be supported by on-the-ground, live touch points, events and educational road shows. These latter activities will build a buzz around the effectiveness of its launch line, Exogen Wearable Resistance, and pave the way for its new technology, an AI wearable coaching system that compliments Exogen and promises to provide a fun and potentially gamechanging solution to solving movement problems in sport, health and fitness around the world.

Commenting on the financing, MDV’s Chairman, Khairul Azwan Harun explained that the MDV-TACT programme was established specifically to promote the development and adoption of new technologies by helping technology-based companies like Sportboleh accelerate their growth and expand their brand locally and globally.

“It is undoubtedly challenging for technology-based companies and start-ups to compete at the global market as it would require substantial resources and support not just from the company but from the technology and finance community as a whole. As a seasoned financier with more than 20 years of experience in financing the technology sector, MDV understands this requirement and is able to provide Sportboleh with specialised financing suited to the Company’s financing needs as a technology start-up. This is due to our track record of financing more than 50 technology start-ups under our pioneering Venture Debt/Finance programme in Malaysia, which was introduced back in 2018. In fact, we are looking to continue to expand our Venture Debt/Finance portfolio and are planning to organise the first ever KL Venture Finance Forum 2022 (KLVF Forum 2022), sometime in September this year, to generate more interest and awareness on Venture Debt/ Finance in Malaysia,” he said.

The future looks bright for this home-grown brand, which has every intention of proving Malaysia and Sport--boleh.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- Japan’s TDK Corporation, the world leader in electronic solutions for the smart society, has presented the fourth installment of its Rising Stars Clinic (RSC).

This is part of the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 (WCH Oregon22), which was held on July 15–24 at the University of Oregon Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, USA.

RSC is “a unique initiative that gives aspiring young athletes the opportunity to train with and learn from, leading track and field competitors past and present,” it said in a statement.

According to the statement, the session was led by two current US athletes, namely WCH Oregon22 men’s 110m hurdles silver medalist Trey Cunningham and Sinclaire Johnson, the women’s 1,500m gold medalist at the 2022 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Two retired legends-turned RSC ambassadors also joined the session, namely Ashton Eaton (USA) - two-time men’s decathlon gold medalist at the Summer Olympics, and Valerie Adams (New Zealand), the four-time world and two-time Olympic champion in women’s shot put.

These elite sportspeople put 16 young participants from local athletics clubs through their paces, offering first-hand instruction on everything from warm-up exercises and stretches to running techniques.

The day’s activities culminated in a 4x100m relay on the main track at the renowned Hayward Field, preceded by a behind-the-scenes tour that gave an authentic taste of the different stages that athletes go through on race day, including a spike check in the call room and team entrances accompanied by introductions from the stadium announcer.

And just like top athletes, the experience was completed with post-race interviews in the stadium’s mixed zone.
