Toshiba launches voltage-driven photorelay with lower power dissipation
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 -- Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation (Toshiba) has started to ship ‘TLP3407SR’, a new voltage driven photorelay that delivers lower power dissipation and the industry’s smallest mounting area.
The new photorelay cuts maximum input power dissipation to 3.3mW, supporting lower power consumption by equipment such as probe cards, automatic semiconductor test equipment, semiconductor testers and the boards of associated application.
When the input is a high voltage of 5V or more, the new photorelay can be driven by adding an external resistor in series, allowing designs with a maximum trigger LED reference current of 0.2mA, according to a statement.
The TLP3407SR’s small S-VSON4T package has a mounting area that is smaller than the current VSONR4 package and is the industry’s smallest. It supports size reductions in equipment like probe cards, or mounting of more photorelays.

Regtech cost to grow 400 per cent by 2024 - Juniper Research
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 -- The value of regtech spending is forecasted to exceed US$127 billion by 2024, up from US$25 billion this year, according to new data from Juniper Research. (US$1 = RM4.18)
This 400 per cent growth will be driven by a dramatic rise in the automation of resource-intensive tasks, such as those involved in Know Your Customer (KYC) checks and increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in transaction monitoring.
According to the research titled, ‘Regtech: Cost Savings, Technological Impact & Vendor Analysis 2019-2024’, AI is ideally suited to regulatory space, as it can dynamically reduce false positive and false negative rates.
It can lead to significant time, resource and ultimately cost savings for compliance monitoring processes.
The combined cost savings for KYC checks for banking and property sales will be almost US$1 billion by 2024; a growth of 690 per cent. The impetus for this will be efficiency savings, as well as the enhanced user experience that can be implemented in customer onboarding.
This will reduce user frustration by improving response times and increasing overall user satisfaction.
The report recommends that organisations invest in the cost-saving potential of AI and cautions that although AI has vast potential, its use must be in line with overall business objectives or deployments will invariably fail to meet expectations.

Stable credit ratings outlook of COSCO SHIPPING Captive - AM Best
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 -- AM Best has affirmed the Financial Strength Rating of A (excellent) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of ‘a’ of COSCO SHIPPING Captive Insurance Co Ltd (COSCO SHIPPING Captive) China.
In a statement, the global credit rating agency with an exclusive focus on the insurance industry said the outlook of these credit ratings was stable.
The ratings reflect COSCO SHIPPING Captive’s balance sheet strength, which AM Best describes as very strong, as well as its adequate operating performance, neutral business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management.
In addition, the ratings reflect the wide range of support the company receives from its parent, China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited, which AM Best perceives to benefit from strong government support.
COSCO SHIPPING Captive’s risk-adjusted capitalisation remained at the strongest level last year, as measured by Best’s Capital Adequacy Ratio, and is supported by very low underwriting leverage, a prudent reinsurance programme and conservative investment portfolio.
The insurance company underwrites mainly marine-related business for the group and its affiliates, as well as other risks stemming from the group’s operations including cargo, liability and commercial property.
As a start-up company, COSCO SHIPPING Captive faces execution risk in achieving its business plans, although this is mitigated via conservative assumptions and regular experience reviews.

PEARSON OUTSTANDING LEARNER AWARDS CEREMONY RECOGNISED HIGH ACHIEVERS
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 (Bernama) -- In a grand celebration held at Le Meridien Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on 21st September 2019, 450 guests comprised of learners, parents, teachers and representatives from the schools witnessed the Outstanding Learner Awards ceremony as Pearson recognised and awarded its BTEC, Edexcel and LCCI high achievers and encouraged them to continuously strive for excellence.
For 2019, Malaysia had an outstanding record of 121 winners from 35 different institutions receiving a total of 151 awards. This includes 47 LCCI winners with a total of 62 awards, 56 Edexcel winners with a total of 71 awards and 18 BTEC winners.
The Pearson Edexcel awards recognised the academic achievements of the award recipients which sets them as the learners who achieved the highest score in their subjects in the country and in the world (outside of the UK) from among thousands of learners who sat for the respective examinations including International A Levels, International GCSE, Lower Secondary Curriculum and International Primary Curriculum.
Pearson Edexcel is the international version of the British educational system, by the largest UK awarding body. Offered here in Malaysia from primary to A Levels, the internationally recognised Pearson Edexcel curriculum has been the choice of many students looking to progress to their ideal higher education institution, either at home or overseas.
Highlights from the event include Alea Yang Ni from Epsom College Malaysia who achieved three awards; the Highest Mark in the World for Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics, Highest Mark in Malaysia for Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Biology and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE English Literature.
The Pearson LCCI awards Gold Medals to the highest scoring learner and Silver Medals for the second highest scoring learner in the world and in country for the respective subject in the whole of the calendar year. These Pearson LCCI awards are presented to eligible learners who have taken LCCI subjects from Level 1 to Level 4. Kuan Weng Yuen from Shen Jai School of Commerce, Ipoh, emerged as the most impressive learner with a World Gold achievement in Pearson LCCI Level 3 Certificate in Business Statistics.
Pearson BTEC award winners were nominated by their respective centres and selected by a panel consisting of executive management from Pearson regional and global offices, and representatives from industry and professional associations. Nominations must include details of what makes the nominee a truly exceptional learner as reflected in their excellent BTEC grades, examples of key successes, in and outside the classroom, their exceptional dedication, commitment, proactive thinking and initiative, professional excellence and other co-curricular efforts and how their example is a role model to other fellow learners.
“We want to acknowledge our students’ diligence and achievements and hope they continue to strive for excellence in their lives. Most importantly, we want our students to continue to reach their learning goals and work with those around them to make exceptional contributions to lives and communities around the world,” said David Barnett, Managing Director, Pearson APAC.
This year we are proud to have learners who achieved the gold status for world awards in all of our qualifications, whether Edexcel, BTEC or LCCI. Year on year we see the numbers of achievers are growing, some even achieving highest marks in the world for some subjects. This is a testament to the growing quality of the teaching and learning environment available at our schools here in Malaysia,” said Ng Boon Teen, Country Director for Malaysia.
In the same ceremony, Pearson also recognised the achievements of 4 LCCI registered training centres across Malaysia that achieved Silver status and 1 centre that achieved Gold status in the Pearson LCCI Centre Award. Infinera introduces XR optics for transport network transformation
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 -- Infinera, an innovative networking solutions supplier has introduced XR optics, the industry’s first point-to-multipoint coherent optical subcarrier aggregation technology optimised for hub-and-spoke traffic patterns.

XR optics is engineered to break the inherent limitations of traditional point-to-point optical transmission solutions and paves the way for disruptive network economics and a paradigm shift in transport architectures.
Powered by independently routable Nyquist subcarriers and coherent optical aggregation capabilities, XR optics enable network operators to design more efficient, flexible and cost-effective transport networks optimised for the applications driving network growth.
With coherent subcarrier aggregation capabilities, XR optics technology enables a single high-speed transceiver to simultaneously send and receive independent data streams to, or from numerous low-speed transceivers.
XR optics is designed to be integrated into a variety of form factors, including industry-standard pluggables, from low-speed interfaces with a single subcarrier to high-speed (400G+) interfaces with numerous subcarriers.

Mobile first, messaging first communications adoption optimises productivity - survey
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 -- Flexibility in the workplace requires a mobile first, messaging first communications strategy to optimise productivity, according to a study released by NetSfere.
The survey shows that workplaces with inconsistent mobile messaging policy and tools not only limits productivity gains, but also opens the door to privacy, compliance and security risks.
Nearly half of both employees and IT decision makers surveyed believe they stand to gain six or more hours a week as a direct result of using their smartphones for business communication which is predominantly for messaging and collaboration.
Infinite Convergence Solutions chief executive officer and president, Anurag Lal said: “It is clear that productivity gains delivered by mobile-first communication platforms, combined with instantaneous nature of messaging are huge, but they should be made available to employees without compromising the enterprise IT environment, whether its security, compliance or reliability.
“If the enterprise fails to do this, employees will turn to consumer-grade apps that will limit productivity gains and put sensitive business information out in the public domain.”
The study also reported that 80 per cent of IT decision makers consider it ‘very important’ that their messaging tools be optimised for mobile-specific working.
The decision makers also put security, compliance and productivity as the key priorities when it comes to business communications.
The study is released by NetSfere, a secure enterprise messaging platform created by Infinite Convergence Solutions Inc, in conjunction with 451 Research. More details on the findings at https://www.netsfere.com/Resources/Whitepapers/

BearingPoint earns FinTech & RegTech Global Award 2019 in Singapore
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- BearingPoint RegTech has bagged the FinTech & RegTech Global Award 2019 in the ‘Distributed Ledger Technology Provider of the Year’ category.
BearingPoint has convinced the award jury with proof of concept (PoC) of a blockchain-based and thus innovative and cost-effective approach to face the growing complexity of regulatory reporting.
With its PoC, BearingPoint has shown that the use of distributed ledger technology (DLT) - also known as blockchain - can reduce the regulatory effort.
The award was received by RegTech DLT manager and head, Moritz Plenk during the Central Banking FinTech & RegTech Global Summit in Singapore recently.
Plenk said: “When two banks submit a transaction report through a DLT-based network, these two transaction partners always have identical and reportable data on their so-called ledgers.
“The third actor in the DLT network, the regulator, can view and extract the data from the two ledgers in real time. Inconsistent transaction data can be avoided, and the efficiency of transaction-based reporting can be increased.”
With the award, Central Banking recognises relevant players among central banks, supervisory authorities and technology as well as consulting companies, for their outstanding achievements and successes.

CONTROL RISKS FURTHER EXPANDS ITS GLOBAL EDISCOVERY CAPABILITY WITH RELATIVITYONE OFFERING IN HONG KONG
Control Risks now offers the SaaS eDiscovery platform in three continents with further expansion to come, enabling them to flexibly support investigations, disputes and compliance needs wherever they arise across the globe.
Hong Kong, Sept 18 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Control Risks, the global specialist risk consultancy, announced today that it has expanded its partnership with Relativity by making its RelativityOne offering available in Hong Kong, covering the Asia Pacific region. The flexible SaaS platform is already available to Control Risks’ clients in North America and the United Kingdom—with further expansion planned. RelativityOne allows Control Risks to build solutions designed to help global corporations and law firms minimize risk in cross-border investigations, complex disputes and risk-mitigation compliance activities.
RelativityOne is a scalable and secure SaaS platform that incorporates advanced analytics, machine learning and visualizations to sift through large volumes of data. It allows for Microsoft Office 365 integration to facilitate getting the critical review of data into a performant SaaS platform. RelativityOne’s added scalability and flexibility allows Control Risks to handle any case, no matter the size, and offers a more consistent experience to customers throughout the globe.
“We’re seeing an ever-increasing level of complexity and uncertainty when it comes to managing investigations, data collection and data movement in Asia. Combine that with spikes in disputes and regulatory enforcement actions in various jurisdictions in region, and it becomes increasingly critical for us to be able to offer a highly scalable and secure environment with which to support our clients,” said Andrew Macintosh, Partner in charge of Control Risks’ forensics and technology practices in Asia Pacific.
Since adopting RelativityOne, Control Risks has earned the distinction of Silver Partner - one of only four service providers in the world to satisfy the performance and volume-based criteria set forth by Relativity for its new RelativityOne Certified Partner program.
Control Risks uses Relativity in support of reactive, complex engagements for clients exposed to regulatory investigations; internal investigations and disputes; litigation and enforcement actions; and an increasing number of proactive, data analytics-driven engagements for clients who are moving towards the next stages of compliance maturity.
RelativityOne has streamlined Control Risks’ ability to integrate new workflows and analytics into forensic reviews. These are guided by Control Risks' deep local expertise and experience in handling cross-border matters, fostering innovation, improving efficiency, and supporting better managed services for end clients.
“With our adoption of RelativityOne we are able to provide our clients with cutting edge technology and access to new tools and capabilities. Additionally, we can leverage these tools and capabilities within our fraud and forensic investigation teams, greatly enhancing our service when facing large, multi-disciplinary issues,” said Steven Wilkinson, Principal and regional practice leader for Control Risks’ technology group in Asia Pacific.
“Whereas advanced analytics was once a ‘nice to have’ capability, with RelativityOne this now becomes a standard approach in all cases, bringing clarity and efficiency to the most complex investigations,” Wilkinson added.
“It’s exciting to see Control Risks further expand its global reach with a commitment to offering RelativityOne in Hong Kong,” said Stuart Hall, Manager, APAC at Relativity.
Hall added, “The Hong Kong e-discovery market continues to expand at a rapid rate. Using RelativityOne allows the Control Risks team to leverage the scalability and performance of our SaaS platform. This in turn means that Control Risks can focus on what it does best and deliver insights to its customers faster than ever before.”
